Shipping, VLD and other fandom related things...

  • I've always been a canon shipper. I don't mean that I ship all canon couples...only that, most of the time, the couples I do ship are usually canon or have some basis in the source material. I've tried shipping non canon couples before but when the stories came to a finish at the end of a show or a book, I'd often get disappointed and feel that I just wasted my time...so since I am exactly that kind of shipper, I figured I wouldn't do any couple fanart/fanfic unless they actually existed in the story. Again, that's how I choose to do things. Others are perfectly fine with non-canon stuff and that's ok, too.
  • I didn't originally ship Keith and Allura but once I got into VLD about a year ago, I figured I would since I knew they were paired up in the 80s Voltron. But after watching VLD and realizing it was a different thing I decided not to go there. After that, I thought they'd pair her up with Lotor (it was at this point I started drawing one-sided Lotor and Allura fan art)...but after watching the last VLD season I can see I might be mistaken about it. Again.

So far, the only pairs likely to be confirmed are either Keith/Lance or Keith/Shiro. The rest don't seem to have any basis, so I think I may have to wait and see what gets confirmed and if I like the idea, I'll get on board a ship or two- I'm getting all these mixed signals from the story and misinterpreting them anyway.  In the meantime, I'll just browse and appreciate a lot of the shipping fan art (although those can be misleading too), and get inspired by them for my own original characters.
  •  Why do people assume that if you don't post about or reblog something, you automatically don't like it? There are a lot of things I like a lot but don't post about. There are a lot of things I like but aren't crazy over (meaning, I like them but they aren't in my favorites list) and there are things I'm neutral about.
  • Why do people assume that if you find some aspects of fandom troubling, you automatically hate everything about it, hate its fans, etc?
  •  When you make a post in a public place, you have the right to express yourself without being harassed about it. This doesn't mean people can't question some of the things you say. It's like writing a fanfic and expecting only praises for it...if you're extra sensitive about people who question what you write/draw, then maybe you should either make a disclaimer saying that 'I only want people who agree with me to send me reviews' or make some kind of private group. Or maybe there's some function in the post to prevent receiving any replies.

Posting something in a public space could be interpreted as being open to an exchange of ideas. And you may not like or agree with some of these ideas. You ought to be able to question, consult, engage and even debate about it in a respectful manner.  Unless it's a troll you're talking with and there's no point in engaging with that.
